Giants Come Out Firing in 38-27 Loss to Close the Preseason
Finally, the preseason is over and the Giants can focus on their week one opponent, the Washington Redskins. Here are my quick notes from last nights game.
Sinorice Moss showed how bad he wanted to make this team and I really think after last night he will. I was thinking Hagan would beat him out. But Moss came up big and made plays that not many receivers have this preseason. It will be a hard decision in the end for the coaches since Moss proved to be the better receiver and Hagan may be a better special teams player.
David Carr looked very crisp going 6-6, 153 yards and 2 TDs. He has had his ups and downs and the thing I like about Carr is that he perseveres and never gives up. He has continually bounced back after each game and improved over the preseason.
Hakeem Nicks once again with a very impressive game. I know it was only one catch but it was a big play and the Giants need a receiver to make big plays in this offense. The 64 yard touchdown reception that he made once again showed the great awareness and adjustment to the ball that he possesses. Hopefully he will be able to bounce back quickly from the hip flexor injury he sustained and contribute early in the regular season.
Mario Manningham had a very productive game with 4 catches and 74 yards receiving. I believe he will be able to overcome the mistakes he makes each game and get more and more comfortable as the season progresses. You have to remember this is really his first full season, since he was injured most of last season and fell behind.
Kevin Boss often flies under the radar. People often forget what kind of weapon he is down the field. The catch and run he made, reminded me of the one he had in Super Bowl XLII. At six feet six inches tall he will be another target for this offense that defenses will have to account for.
The defense looked much better getting to the quarterback and I believe they will continue to improve especially now that they know every game from here on out will count. The defense has also been pretty banged up and slowly they are getting guys back.
Well everyone, the season that we all have been waiting for is about to begin in a little over eight days. I will be busy this labor day weekend most likely won't be on here blogging. I may sneak in an article or two. But, if not have a great weekend everyone and I will be back Tuesday covering the Giants throughout the week leading up to the opening game against the Redskins.

Agree re: preseason; enough of the samplers, let's get to the menu ... generally in the same camp as you re: the passing game - with our superior running game (easily top 4 in the league in terms of runners and OL) all the passing game needs to be is complimentary and there are enough guys with talent to do it - just need a good (not great) showing against the Skins; on defense, assuming Canty and Boley come back and produce, I am just fine with the starters (what's up with Ross - is he going PUP to ensure that once and for all he's healthy by week 6?) plus let's say the top 1-2 subs at each level however after that, the depth appears to fall off (was that Brian Hoyer or Dan Fouts Thursday nite?) and one guy that should NOT make the team is CC Brown (I've seen enough of the BACK of his jersey during pre-season); let's take that spot, plus only carry 2 active QBs (your choice as to whether it's Woodson or Romer on the PS) in order to stock up at other positions (e.g., in my view both Moss and Hagan should make the team - to your point of "better receiver/better STr", etc.) and make up for the tough loss of Alford (now no issue with keeping Tollefson and perhaps Maurice Evans?); lastly (and I know I wrote to you on this last month) on STs, I have this nagging vision of Tynes leaving points on the field (e.g., missed chippies, etc) as well as short kickoffs, out of bounders, dumb moves - like the penalty Thurs nite as it appears he is over trying to prove himself) - you watch John Carney hit all his FGs and XPs for NO ... when I run through the sked I see 13-3 at first blush (losses away at Dallas, NO and Philly) however if we clinch early, I'll give you Minny too since they'll probably need it in light of GB and Chicago) ... keep up the good work and now it's for real
