Hakeem Nicks Has Got It
This past Saturday night, the light turned on for rookie receiver Hakeem Nicks. Once Nicks entered the game early in the second quarter he never looked back. Nicks made a statement from his first catch on. He made a great catch along the sideline on a comeback pattern with Lito Sheppard covering him. After seeing that play you could see that he belongs in the NFL and will make an impact. Overall his night included 6 catches for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nicks showed the great concentration he has to go along with his great hands and body control on a sliding touchdown catch in the back of the end zone with a Jets defender all over him. He also recognized a blitz the Jets were dialing up and used it to his advantage and caused the Jets to blow the coverage on a 71 yard touchdown catch. Even last week against the Bears he made a wide open catch down field to produce a big gain. One thing is for sure, Nicks has shown he can catch the ball when he is supposed to. Unlike the rest of the receiving corp, Nicks has shown he can make the easy catch along with the difficult one. I believe the other receivers on this team can make plays and make a difference. But, right now they have not shown much and Nicks seems to be the most steady receiver. I would not be surprised and I totally expect Nicks to be starting some time before week 4.
